ABOUT THE PAINTATHON
Like a runner runs a marathon lasting 5 hours, i will paint a paintathon lasting 18 hours non stop.The Paintathon will take place on 21st June 2010, summer solstice, near the Devils Dyke on the South Downs. My objective is to complete 1 painting every hour, non stop, tracking the sun from dawn to dusk completing 18 paintings and raising funds for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit.
THE GOAL
Is to hit our target of £4000 - and provide a Biliblanket for jaundiced babies and 2 x portable transiluminators for finding veins in babies. The unit is in need of much more equipment so it would be wonderful to exceed our target and provide a little more.
WHY ARE WE INVOLVED?
It is particularly poignant to my wife, Katja and me, as back in 2003 on a cold and wet May night, 2 weeks early, our beautiful daughter Rosa was born. Due to a grave situation of great danger to both my beautiful girls it was to be an emergency cesarean. She was promptly delivered, let out one little cry and turned grey. In need of immediate exceptional attention she was whipped off to the Trevor Mann Unit, fortunately one floor up. Having turned colours we had never seen before or since, the doctors and nurses took no chances and spent a week tenderly nursing her back to where she belonged, in the loving embrace of her gorgeous but traumatized mum.
We cannot thank or praise the team enough for all they did for us and for their unyielding determination to save the lives of hundreds of babies every year. But without the equipment they are seriously compromised. |
